Ｔｈｅ　endless　sanshin

という訳で前回ブログでもお伝え致しました通り、10月より、スタッフとして一緒に仕事をはじめたマークの所信表明です

After several years of playing the guitar and never really getting a grasp of it I finally found an instrument that I understood. I first picked up a sanshin a little over a year ago and while the first few weeks were difficult I saw that I was growing musically. I began to finally understand music.

ギターを何年かけて勉強しましたが、なぜかあまり分からなかった。１年少し前に三線を始めて手に入れました。最初の数週間は苦労しましたが音楽的に成長していること分かってきました。やっと音楽を理解できるようになっていた。

Since that time I have become more and more intrigued by the sanshin and the music it’s based upon. Having just three strings and no frets like a guitar or ukulele limits the instrument in some ways but allows the player to grow musically. The instrument and the player are equal.

あれからどんどんどんどん！三線と三線の伝統的な音楽に興味が沸いてきました。三弦しかなくギターやウクレレみたいにフレットがなくてある意味で楽器的に制限がありますが三線は弾く人を成長させると思います。楽器とミュージシャンを共に成長できます。

The tradition of the sanshin is also beautiful. The black neck and snakeskin stuck me from the very first moment I saw one. To this day I often find myself looking at the fine lines reflected in the complex curves of the neck and head.

三線の伝統も美しいと思います。真っ黒棹と蛇の皮は一目惚れでした。カッコイイイ！と思いました。今までも棹の複雑な反射されたラインを見るだけで夢中になります。

Being a New Zealander though my feeling is that “different” is often as good as “better”. Different and better is always tops! I began making sanshins with guitar machine heads as n way of being different but after playing I found that the ease and precision they allow when tuning made the experience of playing much more enjoyable.





しかし調弦においてはより微調整が可能で強度のあるペグへの変更が合理的だと思っています。ギターのペグで三線を作るのは初めてからいい！と思いました。そして製作後、実際に使ってからペグならできる微調節と使いやすさで弾くことをもっと楽しめました。

After hundreds of years of following the same path many people are weary of something different but I’ll always go my own way and hope that others see sense in my way.



何百年も歴史を持つ中で、日本の皆さんが、僕が作る斬新なフォルムやギターに近い形状のヘッドやペグ部分を肯定的に見るとは思いませんが、僕はとにかく自分の道を歩いて同じように考えている皆様と想いや進化を共有出来れば本望です。

As for the future of the sanshin I think the traditional element of the instrument has plenty of strength. I’d be happy to see that continue and in fact I strongly hope it does. I will try my own way though. I hope for find people that hold the same intrigue in the sanshin but hope to introduce still more to the sound that first hooked me.

三線の将来を考えた場合、伝統を守って受け継がれて欲しいと願う方が多いと思います。それはいいことだと思います。裾野が広がり、その中で伝統を重んじて古典や民謡、三線製作に携わる人が増えるよう、僕は同志と三線の魅力を伝えて行けるよう努力したいです。
I hope so introduce some more variation to what can be called a sanshin, to broaden people’s perspective and make the instrument more attractive to a wider range of people. Like the growth seen in traditional Japanese sports like Judo and Karate when adopted by other countries I’d like to see something similar for the future of the sanshin. Give it to the people and let that be part of it’s history too.

三線が国やジャンルを超えて楽器として普及して欲しい！柔道や空手みたいに外国の方から愛されて人気を広げた様に、三線の普及や知名度が広まる将来に期待したい。
そうなった場合、世界の人々にとってのsanshinヒストリーとなることでしょう。


うちなースタッフりさママやまっつん、そして匠こと三線職人、県外出身の自分とNZ出身のマーク一丸となって「伝統」と「革新」双方を大切に三線が奏でる音を伝え続ける所存です

11月2日～30日の一ヶ月間は那覇のCAFEBAR　carakuiyaさんにて　各三線展示（12時～24時）、体験教室（13時～18時）、ジャンル超え三線ミニライブ（開催期間中毎週土曜日20時～などを行って参ります。


普段は那覇にいてなかなか読谷まで来れない皆さん、夜飲みつつ三線を眺めたい皆さん、是非この機会に国際通りの真ん中ら辺、carakuiyaさんに遊びにいらしてください

その間読谷ギャラリーは移動、内装工事、オープン準備の為お休みとさせて頂き、2010年1月1日よりResort Instrument Factory ASOVIVA としてOPEN致します。
